Janis Joplin Once Said…

Janis Lyn Joplin was born on January 19, 1943 and died October 4, 1970. Janis was an American singer-songwriter who sang rock, soul and blues music.

Being an intellectual creates a lot of questions and no answers. – Janis Joplin

I’m an intellectual and I do believe that Janis was also an intellectual. It isn’t only about intelligence but it’s also about what you can create or make and do that brings out this part of your being. It does make you question things and the more you learn the more you question things. I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed that and I find it amusing that when you think you have learned what you need to about something one can come up with alternatives or a twist to bring forth more questions and more possibilities.

Don’t compromise yourself. You are all you’ve got. – Janis Joplin

This is something that I have to keep on reminding myself to do is not to compromise myself. So very often I have set aside my own needs and wants for work or other things but that doesn’t make my wants and needs go away. They are still there lingering in the background and if I ignore them too long they start lurching up to let me know that I’ve ignored them too long. That is when I know I need to do something different. That’s what I’ve done recently with work, work was becoming overwhelming to me and no it’s not because I recently got COVID19 but I can see this challenging my job even more. You know your job is stressful when it overshadows traumatic things that you’ve gone through, granted it was a distraction but then I got sucked into the problems of the many and ignoring my own things.

People expect Janis Joplin to be a tough bitch, and say I start talking to them like a lonely little girl–that’s not in their image of me-they don’t see it. Say you meet somebody you’ve heard about, you don’t ever see them, you don’t see who they are and who they need to be recognized as – you see who you need them to be. – Janis Joplin

I think Janis was tough but she was also shy. I think she was quite private about who she really was and so when and if you seen her she was who you expected to see as she says not who she necessarily really was. I think many of us do that in our lives. We let people see what we think they want to see for us, I’m not saying I’m not real with anyone but what I am saying is that those that get an opportunity to get to know me are usually in for a few surprises. I kind of like it that way.
