Charles Hardin Holley aka Buddy Holly was born on September 7, 1936 and died in a plane crash, shortly after takeoff on February 3, 1959, along with Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and the pilot. Buddy was an American musician and singer-songwriter.

Buddy Holly ended up being a big influence on many musicians but he gave Elvis Presley a nod for Elvis being a key in opening the door to his career after opening for him. Buddy Holly & His Crickets shifted from country to rock and roll and I believe that aside from the music Buddy made that his tragic ending also fueled his popularity. I’m not saying that because he died is why we remember him but it is a fact when one dies before their time and while they’re still climbing that tends to torpedo them to infamy.
From the Beatles to the Rolling Stones to Weezer and Don McLean, Buddy Holly has left his mark and will be remembered. In his short career Buddy recorded several songs that his record company was able to release singles and albums from Holly.

I find this quote from Buddy to be eerie and a little odd. He was only 22 when he died in the plane crash and I think while he was climbing and gaining his popularity I think unfortunately his death played a part in his act as well.
Just one of many songs that mention Buddy Holly and I do believe that Weezer was also influenced by him. I know Don McLean sure was when he decided to write the iconic song American Pie.
