Mister Rogers Once Said… would you be my … could you be my… won’t you be my neighbor

Fred McFeely Rogers was born on March 20, 1928 and died on February 27, 2003. Best known as Mister Rogers, Fred was an American television personality, musician, puppeteer, writer, producer, and Presbyterian minister.

The world needs a sense of worth, and it will achieve it only by its people feeling they are worthwhile. – Fred Rogers

I grew up watching Mister Rogers Neighborhood and recently just watched the movie, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood which starred Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers. It was a brilliant movie and made me feel quite nostalgic. I do believe that Fred was very likely very much like the man you seen on television. He had a certain warmth and way about him and had many profound insights to life.

Won’t you be my Neighbor – Mister Rogers Neighborhood

Our world does need a sense of worth and Fred is right that it starts with making each other feel they are worthwhile. It’s one of the easier requests or wants that is totally achievable is to feel appreciated, to hear ones appreciation and know that someone, somewhere out there is reading your words, listening to your songs, looking at your art, whatever it is, whatever makes us unique I don’t know of anyone who has not wanted at one point to feel appreciated. I know I do and I appreciate the recent comments to a post I made on Facebook asking about my writing, I do listen and I do appreciate knowing that you do read some of my writing and you think I should continue. Writing has become a passion, it has given me a way to express myself and I think I’m better at writing than I am at telling people how I feel or what I am feeling. I know I am also working on that to get better at expressing myself.

Forgiveness is a strange thing. It can sometimes be easier to forgive our enemies than our friends. It can be the hardest of all to forgive people we love. – Fred Rogers

Forgiveness is still something that I have struggled with through the years. I have had many experiences where I have found it more than just a little difficult to learn this skill. When one goes through profound trauma such as sexual assault, domestic violence or another type of abuse it usually happens from a person that we know and sometimes from a person that we cared about. It could be your husband, a relative or it could be someone that you’ve known for a very long time and that does make it that much harder to process what you went through and how it affected you. I am still learning and growing. I know I have not learned everything about forgiveness as of yet.

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look at the helpers. You will always find people who are helping’ – Fred Rogers

Now I’m not exactly sure what Fred meant by this if he meant that when you need help that there is usually someone who is willing to help you and that you just have to know how to find them. The other part of me says that maybe he was talking about the people that are troubled and need help which could be true as well. Sometimes we just need to look out for someone who might be able to help us but we also need to pay attention to those who need our help.

There are three ways to ultimate success. The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind. – Mister Rogers

I do believe this to be true and that’s why it is one of my main points in the things that I write often. I do believe in kindness, I believe in being kind to one another, being kind to strangers, being kind to those who you may not think to be kind to. Kindness goes a long way and I know when you’re kind good things do happen, all you have to do is be kind.

A very heartfelt look at the life of Mr. Rogers.
