Mark Freuder Knopfler was born on August 12, 1949. Mark is a British singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer and best known as lead in the band Dire Straits who he co-founded with his brother David.

That is something that I do believe that Mark has accomplished with his work is playing and making people feel good. There’s a certain feeling one gets when they listen to music they enjoy or attend a concert or when they’re playing music. It puts you in a special place and gives you a kind of euphoria.

I love this quote from Mark and believe it is a profound statement of what freedom means. I believe that many of us are not fully aware of what freedom actually is or feels like. I think that our freedoms are led by surviving. We have needs for food, shelter and safety. In order to satisfy those needs we often do things that we don’t want to do in order to get by. When one gets to be able to do what they want in life and has their basic needs met I believe that’s when we start learning more about freedom. Unfortunately there are many things that dictate our freedom depending on where we live, how we live and what we do. What we need to learn is better ways of being able to for doing the things you want to do in life instead of just trying to survive.

I’m not saying that we don’t need schools or lawyers or even churches. I think there should be a certain freedom in being able to choose and not have a dictatorship when it comes to churches. Lawyers need to look at laws and fix the system cause that has been broken for years. Perhaps it is the way that we’re learning in school that isn’t quite teaching us what we really need to know in life. I say we need to rethink many things, we do and should learn many things and continue to learn as long as we can because that is the key to being prepared for life.
This is the unedited that mentions the Faggot with the earring and the makeup, that little Faggot got his own jet air plane, that little Faggot is a millionaire. When I first heard and seen Money for Nothing on MTV or Night Tracks it didn’t influence me in any given way towards or against homosexuals. The term Faggot in the song more-so is one person’s view (the blue collar worker) talking about those people he was seeing on MTV, not saying that all were Faggots but stating these people are getting paid for wearing next to nothing and dancing around and lip syncing their own music. The blue collar worker the one that works in factories has a job that is considerably harder than the ones that you see who act or sing or write stories. But what the blue collar worker doesn’t take into consideration is what it takes to be the writer, the actor, the musician, the director and being in the public eye. It’s a jealousy thing where the money seems easier but most artists know that it takes a lot to be able to get to the point where they have their own jet air plane or when they become millionaires. They do call us starving artists for good reason. Many of us learned music, writing is something that sometimes it comes naturally but we still need to be discovered. Someone needs to love what we write, and follow us, be fans of us and tell other people so we gain more exposure. Many artists try to expose themselves in many ways through news, social media, putting ones self out there but we cannot do it alone. Word of mouth helps us. That’s when we get noticed, discovered and followed. That’s when others learn things that they didn’t know, hear things that they never heard, see things they’ve never seen and maybe rethink the way we go about life.
I decided to add an additional song from Dire Straits because I have enjoyed their music through the years. It takes me back to a time when things seemed easier.
