Tom Petty Once Said…

Thomas Earl Petty was born on October 20, 1950, and died on October 2, 2017. Tom was an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor.

Music is probably the only real magic I have encountered in my life. There’s not some trick involved with it. It’s pure and it’s real. It moves, it heals, it communicates and does all these incredible things. – Tom Petty

I totally agree that music is magic and has been very magical in my life. It does move and heal and communicates and does all kinds of things in life. I can’t imagine my life without music but I also feel that way about art. Music is an art. So is writing and photography and even cooking. They can or could all be considered art forms. And life without art would be boring. If there were no pictures, no knick knacks, no hand carved furniture or sculptures, no flower arrangements, no books, no music… I can’t imagine. I just can’t.

Go after what you really love and find a way to make that work for you, and then you’ll be a happy person. – Tom Petty

From personal experience my happiest parts of my life in working have been where I was being creative by designing web pages or being a radio announcer (and getting to choose what music to play). It brought me joy and was definitely the happiest I’ve been working. That’s why I’ve been refreshing my memory to working with web pages and exploring that creative side and pushing my writing forward to expose it more so that it can reach people that need it. I’ve had plenty of hard life lessons and I know people can learn from me. I don’t want people to go through the same hell that I did and if you’re exposed to sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect, bullying or other things that you have choices. Maybe I can help guide you to what will work best for you.

You and I will meet again. When we’re least expecting it. One day in some far off place, I will recognize your face, I won’t say goodbye my friend. For you and I will meet again. – Tom Petty

This last quote from Tom is a lesson on life and death. I tend to treat people as if it is going to be the last time I’m going to see them (not everyone and not all the time) but often enough especially because I don’t live in close proximity to most of my family. As I’ve gotten older I realize just how fleeting or short life can really be, how things can happen when we least expect it, when you’re not ready for it, when you don’t want it. But one thing I learned in my grief came from Kate McGahan and her writing is that there is no goodbye, not when you’re bonded. Your heart strings are connect your souls and when you want to communicate you just have to learn how to connect to the other’s frequency. There are signs, you just have to watch out for them.

I won’t back down – Tom Petty

All of my life I grew up listening to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and seeing their music videos on tv and just loving their music, his solo music and music he didn’t with the Traveling Wilbury’s. One thing I always wanted to do was see him play in concert, unfortunately I never did get to see him. But maybe one day there will be one massive concert up there with all my favorites.
