Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, and was assassinated by John Wilkes Boothe on April 15, 1865. Abe was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the 16th President of the United States from 1861–1865. Abraham Lincoln fought to change history and abolish slavery by helping get the Emancipation Proclamation passed and 13th Amendment of the US Constitution.

Abraham wanted to make a difference and during the Civil War made the infamous Gettysburg Address. There are many that say that Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest Presidents we’ve had and for everything that he did he didn’t do it alone. He definitely made a difference for the United States. We still struggle with freedom however and it seems as if we’re heading for a change and I hope that change will bring more equality.

One thing I believe is that Abraham had a lot of character and we have had many individuals who have strong morals and their character is one we want to look up to and follow. That’s part of what I want people to learn, what I want people to understand is that we need to promote tolerance, love and forgiveness.

America has been struggling to get a foothold on freedom ever since we made our way here. Yes we have taken a stance to change it so that women can vote, that people of color do not have to be segregated or enslaved, or that same sex can marry, or interracial marriage not be shunned but we still have a long way to go. The system is broken and needs fixing, we need to look at all of it and learn from our mistakes and once and for all do something to change it for the better, for equality and justice for all.
