Ernest Hemingway Once Said…

Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 and died on July 2, 1961. Ernest was an American journalist, novelist, short-story writer, and sportsman.

The world breaks everyone, and afterwards, some are strong at the broken places. – Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway surely had a way with words and the first quote I share from him is how the world breaks people but then we become stronger at the broken places. I know this to be true because of every difficulty I’ve endured I have come out the other side of it stronger. If there’s anything I’ve proven in my life is that one can endure, one can survive and you’ll be stronger. We’re bent but not broken. Many writers and artists have had a mental illness and it isn’t something that we should be ashamed of but we often are. I believe when people open up about their lives that it eases the stigma and eases the pain because the brain, your heart, and body cannot contain it alone and when you open up you’re releasing the bad toxins and opening yourself up to a world of possibilities.

The world is a fine place worth fighting for, and I’d hate very much to leave it. – Ernest Hemingway

This second quote is one of my top favorite quotes and I have to agree or believe that it worth fighting for. That is the hopeful part of myself that wants to believe that we have to push ourselves to keep trying for our happiness. We have and always will fight or have wars for our freedom or in response to terrorism and in the name of religion or other things. I don’t really care for war but I also feel that things shouldn’t go unpunished.

Best of all he loved the fall
the leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
leaves floating on the trout streams
and above the hills
the high blue windless skies
…now the will be part of them forever. (Ernest Hemingway – Idaho – 1939) This was a eulogy for Gene Van Guilder written by Hemingway.

In his memorial in Idaho Robert Berks dedicated a sculpture which had a eulogy that Hemingway wrote for his friend Gene Van Gulder. I love what Hemingway wrote because I do love the fall when there’s all the colors in the leaves and the air is crisp and I too love to be out fishing. It’s one of the things I haven’t done in quite awhile that I miss. Just being out on a lake with the quiet and watching the birds flying around and having the wind and sun kiss your face as time passes by.
