Samuel Houston was born March 2, 1793 and died July 26, 1863. Sam was an American soldier and politician. An important leader of the Texas Revolution, Houston served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas, and was one of the first two individuals to represent Texas in the United States Senate.
He also served as the sixth governor of Tennessee and the seventh governor of Texas, the only American to be elected governor of two different states in the United States.
Samuel Houston was also a Freemason. He served under General Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812. I also read some other interesting details regarding political parties back then and some of the history of political parties. It’s not as straight forward as USA wants you to think it kind of became a black and white or Democratic and Republican scenario in stages.
Having spent 9 years in Texas in Abilene, Austin, Three Rivers and lastly Corpus Christi I thought I’d honor Mr. Houston. I have no regrets for the time I spent in Texas, for friends I gathered along the way and lots of pictures and memories.
I picked this quote from Sam because I agree this is what a leader should be like and what they should strive for. I also believe that Sam was talking about our political system and politics since he had a pretty good hand in the beginnings and intermixing of politics. Thank you for your service Mr. Houston.
